About the author: Rolf Dahlo has a degree in the history of ideas from the University of Oslo. He has published on John Milton, preservation of physical documents and WW2 history. He was instrumental in developing ISO 9706:1994 Information and documentation - Paper for documents - Requirements for permanence, and he authorized the publication of several preservation standards as the chairman of the ISO subcommittee for physical keeping of documents. Ironically, he discovered in 1994 that he needed to reconstruct his early biography from fragile records from WW2 in several countries. Some of them were degraded so it was difficult to turn the pages without damaging them. Good preservation work by TNA paper conservators rescued these degraded records. For some document professionals he is living proof that fragile archival documents are worth preserving. His book is based on research in the war history from 1994 to the present.
